[net.games.hack] Update on HACK for SCO XENIX

dts@cullvax.UUCP (Daniel T Senie) (07/19/86)

In the last few weeks I have been trying off and on to get HACK to
build under XENIX. I got everything to compile cleanly using the large
model of the compiler, but linking is another matter.

Using ld directly seems fruitless. It complains about hundreds of
modules not being found. I then tried using cc to drive the linker. It
seemed to work better until I got the message:

/bin/ld: Too many segments
Input File: /lib/Llibc.a(ungetc.o.c) pos: 213bb Record type: 98
*** Error code -109

Of course the manual doesn't document such errors. I'd call SCO, but
they only provide support for 30 days. Besides, they couldn't even
answer a simple question of current versions when I first got the
product. This copy of XENIX is my employer's. I'm thinking of getting a
machine of my own to run XENIX (or UNIX) on, but haven't found the right
thing yet...

If anyone knows how to get around this problem, I'd really like to hear
from you.

If anyone wants a copy of hack that compiles and runs on SCO XENIX V,
I ported it earlier this year. Send me a request and I will send
you a shar file.
