[pe.cust.bugs] libdbm: bad block

vasoll@okstate.UUCP (03/07/85)

Are there any other PE Edition 7 R2.4 systems running Honeyman's
pathalias software? I am having some trouble when "fetch"ing some key
values from the DBM database that is created. For example, when trying to
"fetch" the data associated with the key `maryland' I get the following
message:

bad block
uupath: IOT trap -- core dumped

Note that of the 3010 sites on the network only about 15 of them
give this error when being fetched. I have looked at the code, but it's
just gibberish to me (at first reading anyway). Does anyone know of any
known bugs that might cause this problem? Any fixes?

Thanks in advance,

Can't help you there, but do you really need to use dbm? I
just ran pathalis to produce a text file, ran sort on the file,
and use look(1) to extract sites quickly with binary-search.
(We have a "uupath" shell file which basically just runs
look $1 /u/map/uupath.)

By the way, look at the References line above. Has okstate really
posted 26.5 million articles? :-)
