There are a few minor annoyances, like the disk command parsing routine not working entirely correctly and the timeout implementation is far from complete (though it can timeout), and not handling the lack of an init file on the disk elegantly. The documentation describes all the features of this new Kermit, I'm sure people will find it a major improvement over previous versions. All known bugs in the communications routines have been fixed and eight-bit-quoting works. It comes from Ralph Mitchell, Computer Centre, Brunel University, Uxbridge UK. There is no documentation to speak of, so nothing can be said at this point about its capabilities (maximum baud rate, screen scroll, printer control, key redefinition, etc). Reviews, contributions of documentation (or a .BOO file) welcome. Note that there was already a version of the old IBM PC Kermit version 1.20 that was modified for the Apricot at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, which has been available as KER:APRICOT.* since November 1984. If anyone knows any reason why this new version should not replace the old one, please speak up. Thanks to Alan Phillips of Lancaster University for sending it on tape. ------------------------------ Date: Mon 24 Jun 85 17:15:47-EDT From: Frank da Cruz <SY.FDC@CU20B> Subject: Kermit for the Acorn BBC Micro This is to announce the initial release (version 0.53) of Kermit for the Acorn BBC micro under the operating system OS1.20, by Alan Phillips, Department of Computing, Lancaster University, UK. The source, in 6502 assembler, is in KER:BBC*.ADE, and a binary dump of the compiled code is in KER:BBC053.ROM. KER:BBCBUILD.HLP describes how to construct a BBC Kermit, and KER:BBCKERMIT.BWR lists known problems with this release. A printable form of the user guide is in BBCKERMIT.DOC. Inside the UK, this program will be available on diskette and via the UK university network from Lancaster University. ------------------------------ Date: Mon 24 Jun 85 18:05:55-EDT From: Frank da Cruz <SY.FDC@CU20B> Subject: New Release of Sperry 1100 Kermit Version 2.2 of Sperry (Univac) 1100 Kermit (the assembler version, not the Pascal or the Ratfor version) has been sent in by the author, Paul Stevens of the University of Wisconsin. Version 2.2 includes 8th-bit and repeat-count prefixing, server operation, and supports wildcards in filenames (server and wildcard code mostly from Grant Gilmour of Guld Canada Resources Inc). The program is in KER:UNIVAC.ASM on CU20B. ------------------------------ Date: Mon 24 Jun 85 17:21:39-EDT From: Frank da Cruz <SY.FDC@CU20B> Subject: Kermit for ND Series Minicomputers Announcing the initial release of Kermit-ND (version 3.1b) for the Norwegian ND family of minicomputers (ND-10/100/500), by H. Eidnes and A. Lie, Norwegian Institute of Technology and others, written in ND Pascal version J / MAC. The files are in KER:ND*.* on CU20B. ------------------------------ Date: Mon 24 Jun 85 17:28:55-EDT From: Frank da Cruz <SY.FDC@CU20B> Subject: Another Kermit Implementation for the ICL/Perq Here is a second Kermit program for the ICL/Three Rivers Perq workstation. This one is by A. Lie, formerly of the Norwegian Institute of Technology, written in POS Pascal for POS version D6/R2. Like the other Pascal-based Perq Kermit (from Peter Thew in Australia), it has a pop-up menu user interface. This new version of Perq Kermit is in KER:PQ2*.* on CU20B (the old one is in KER:PQK*.*). Unbiased comparisons by Perq users of the two programs would be welcome, so that the less favored one can be retired to make space. Thanks to Frithjov Iversen of the Computing Centre at the University of Trondheim for sending this to us on tape. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jun 85 08:29:49 edt From: Steve Archer <archer@rochester.arpa> Subject: New HP-3000 SPL Kermit Here is a new version of HP-3000 Kermit in SPL, version 1.1, to replace version 1.0 originally from Ed Eldridge, Polaris Inc. (POLARIS@USC-ISI). It adds the capability to show parameters, changes the "serve" command to "server". Help messages have been added, and some short-form commands. Also added parity, a FINISH command, and a very primitive connect mode. steve archer ------------------------------ End of Info-Kermit Digest ************************* -------
