A superb tutorial on Irish fiddle is available from Homespun Tapes Box 694 Woodstock, NY 12498 The tutorial is taught by the great Irish fiddler, Kevin Burke (who now lives in Oregon and tours extensively in this country). The lessons are on six cassette tapes with accompanying notes. I also recommend a separate tape available from the same outfit of twenty Irish fiddle tunes also played by Kevin Burke. A collection of "British" fiddle tunes collected by Robin Williamson is available from Oak Publications 33 West 60th Street, NY 10023 The book is entitled English, Welsh,Scottish and Irish Fiddle Tunes and can be found in many music stores (not just those specializing in "folk" music). The amount of instructional material in this book is somewhat limited, but it is worth having for the anecetdotes alone. There are many unusual and beautiful tunes in Williamson's collection. Finally, a cassette tape and book on Sligo fiddling entitled "A Trip to Sligo" by Tony DeMarco and Miles Krassen is available from Silver Spear Publications P.O Box 9020 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15224 I find this book to be somewhat pedantic and the choice of tunes rather poor, but others may disagree. I have seen it in several specialty music stores. As to good recordings by Irish fiddlers, I have already mentioned Kevin Burke. Most of his recordings are available from Green Linnet records. Other worth- while recordings are by Tommy Peoples (available on Shanachie) and Bobby Casey (Green Linnet). -- All opinions expressed here are my own and not necessarily those of my employer Ronald A.
