[net.music.folk] concert on the lawn: trapezoid

toml@rlgvax.UUCP (Tom Love) (07/25/85)

this sunday, july 28, at 7:00 pm, the bluemont concert series will
be presenting trapezoid. they will perform on the steps of the
loudoun county courthouse, in leesburg, va. bring your own blanket or
lawn chair. admission: a requested donation of $2 ($1 for senior citizens
and concert series subscribers). to get there, from the d.c. area get out
to route 7 (e.g. tysons corner) and head west approximately 24 miles into
leesburg. follow business 7 until the barricades (the streets are
closed off during the concert), park, and follow the throngs about two
blocks to the courthouse. the concert is on, rain or shine.

trapezoid is a band rooted in bluegrass and appalachian folk music, but
with a diverse array of interests, including celtic folk tunes, newgrass,
and several innovative blendings of musical cultures of their own invention.
instrumentally they center on guitar, standup bass, and hammered dulcimer
(the source of their name) but also include the bowed psaltry, cello, fiddle,
banjo, and other instruments i am surely forgetting. they have appeared on
television and radio (including "a prairie home companion") numerous times,
and have released five albums. their appearance in leesburg is probably
the high point of the bluemont concert series.

i can personally enthusiastically recommend this band, and the down-home
setting on the lawn in leesburg may be the best way to see them anywhere,
not to mention the cheapest. i also recommend supporting the bluemont
concert series, a non-profit organization which brings all of us excellent
music at a cheap price, but more importantly, performs notable public service
by bringing music into the schools, old folks homes, hospitals, etc. a
worthwhile organization.

check it out!
