[ I tried to post to net.christian.xian, but it's not here yet ] > I don't like 'xian'. I'm just bothered by replacing > 'christ' with 'x'. I think that's reasonable for a Christian. The Christian church is full of abbreviations. Does the P chi rho symbol bother you? Or does the early Christian X church symbol of the fish reduce Christ to being a fish? [ Chi Rho are the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ. The Greek word for fish contains 5 letters, an acronym for Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior (at the risk of publishing without researching, I think it's IXTHOS (TH=theta)). ] It's been decided to use net.religion.xian, and it's not up for debate. It's not a bad idea. There are more important matters of faith being discussed here... I'm hoping to be able to understand the fundamentalist view a little better. Could someone kindly tell me when a fundamentallist allows divorce? 1) If the husband gives the wife a writ of divorce (Leviticus(?)) 2) Only in the case of adultery (Matthew) 3) Never never never (Mark, Luke) 4) It's alright if you become a Christian and your non-Christian spouse wants it. No, abbreviations and symbols don't bother me. The problem is they are not intuitive in our culture, they are esoteric. I would think it would be better to have a name with a more obvious meaning. But you're right, the issue has been decided for us and perhaps I was a little hasty to object. Sorry. -- Paul Dubuc cbscc!pmd
