[net.religion.christian] Thy purpose be served...

It looks to me as if net.religion.christian is a resounding success. The
volume is high, flame content low, and the discourse fascinating.

There are several things here that appeal to me, despite my zealous
agnosticism. I like hearing doctrinal contrasts: they reveal much of the
political workings of churches. I enjoy the rationales used in explaining
them: they provide glimpses of the processes used by individuals, from
rigid legalisms to hoary tradition to wild new interpretations.

I personally intend to keep silence about most of this, to refrain from
discouraging what I consider a healthy interchange. (Also because
I feel that the more information one has of other religions, the more
likely agnosticism will be the long term result.) If I really want to
criticize something, likely I'll do so in net.religion (unless there is
some compelling reason....) I hope others will feel this way also,
and spare us flames (both sides) about what does/does_not belong here.
I mean to suggest cooperation, rather than conspicuous assertion of rights.

Anyhow, I hope the rest of you enjoy this as much as I do.
