We sang them *every* day at Mass (which we were required to attend) for 4 years. Yuck! (I'd have preferred Peter, Paul and Mary!) As far as the assimilation goes, there are a number of places in the greater Chicago area that have Mass in the vernacular. This can range from English to Spanish to Italian to Polish to Ukranian to ...well, you get the picture. And there are Masses that use the real folk idiom for their music. Have you never heard of a polka Mass?? Not ashamed of *my* heritage! Did is strike any of the rest of you that there was something a little odd in a community that put up with the same 2 boring songs for 4 years? I'd be inclined to believe that there was something of a communication problem in that particular community. How do you settle other things? curious, Laura Creighton utzoo!laura
