[net.religion.christian] Christians and bankers

jayt@ssc-vax.UUCP (Jay T McCanta) (04/04/85)

Forgive my ignorance, but why all the discussions about gays being
or not being christians? Scripture has been quoted and refuted and
I still see no resolve. Karen has even told us what God can and can't
do.

>Why continue to prove to us heterosexual bigots that we should
>accept homosexuality and that God does? WE CAN'T and I CAN'T.
>That is really beside the point. Does Jesus, does God accept
>it? He can't either.

Why not go againt usery? BOTH Jesus and Paul had specific comments
on such a practice, yet, I do not see hoards of christians trying
to get usery outlawed to protect our children. (and no one can claim
genetic predisposition to loaning money for interest).

Are we so concerned with what we believe God wants, or is it an excuse
to justify our intolerance of other?

Although no one posted in response to my original article, I did receive
some interesting mail. All in all, I received about letters. A summary
of them follows.

I don't have the original article to post for reference, but basically I was
saying that I couldn't support the use of the Bible to condemn homosexuals
when the bible also had nasty things to say about usery (lending money for
interest) and no one seemed to respond to bankers the same way they
responded to gays.

Three of the letters were in agreement, and one of these informed me that
the subject has been on the net before (sorry abnout that) and the flames
were hot.

That brings me to the other seven. Of these, at least most (all but two)
were polite (relatively speaking). The polite people, for the most part,
felt that the two "sins" were so different that the comparison was an
unfair one. It is because *they* were polite, that I have not posted their
names.

The two who were not so nice accused me of being either anti-semectic (and
a close personal friend of Black) or of baiting the Christians or both. It
is because *I* am polite that I don't post their names. My response is that
I am neither. I do not believe that the Jews are in control of the economy,
nor do I share in opinions similar to Black's. As far as bating the
Christian's, I was not baiting, but rather trying to illustrate a point.
Where do we draw the line? If the Bible is to be followed in reguards to
homosexuality, why not in reguards to usery? I could not be baiting the
Christians, for I am indeed one of them.
