[net.religion.christian] Kid's Album Recommendation

dubois@uwmacc.UUCP (Paul DuBois) (05/08/85)

Here's a recommendation for a record for your kids (8 - 12 yrs.,
I believe). The Bill Gaither Trio has a new kid's album out called,
simply enough, "Life". It has a lot of kids singing on it - they
form a group called, get this, "Primary Data." It's a great album,
I love it. If you're looking for Christian children's music, you
should get this. Computer types will like it - there's a song called
"Input/Ouput", on the idea that what goes in your head will influence
you, so make sure you choose wisely what you let in, i.e., not "let me
copy your answers", etc.

I'll also relate the following anecdote. There's a song on the album
called "I'm somebody", the message of which is that you're not a jerk
just 'cause you tried out for the basketball team (this is the
concrete example used in the lead-in, the person that tried out is a
girl, by the way), and didn't make it and you feel lousy. I.e., the
message is that you're not worthless because of a shortcoming, or a
mistake, you're still made in the image of God and so you're still
somebody.

Anyway, my daughter was playing with a ball in the house and she
tossed it in the living room (not allowed; things tend to break), and
was told (by me) not to do that and (by my wife) that she knows
better. Well, my daughter is one of these types that does something
wrong about every two months or so (really!), so she's kind of
sensitive about such things, and went into a quick tailspin. No need
to, but did. It so happened that we had the album on and "I'm
somebody" had just finished playing - so needless to say, this was a
marvelous opportunity to start a little hug action and tell her
"you're still somebody, you know" and so forth. Being a normal
responsive type human, she realized what we were saying and cheered
back up, reassured. Praise the Lord.
