[net.misc] Food Quality Question

cbostrum (07/29/82)

I am very interested in knowing what people think about the relative
plausibilities of the following two statements about restaurant food:
A: Good food is not cheap.
B: Cheap food is not good.

Is it your opinion that:
	I) A is more plausible than B
II) B is more plausible than A
III) A and B are roughly equally plausible

I would greatly appreciate if you sent me your opinion on this topic.
If there are interesting results, I will post a news item on it, but
please do not bias the results by offering public opinions on the topic
before then.

In response to "cbostrum's" inquiry (watmath.3121),
since A and B are logically equivalent,
my answer is III.

Are we really going to get bits and pieces of Smullyan's book plastered
all over the net?

No, the two statements are not logically equivalent, by any possible
interpretation that does not include a screenful of caveats.

This is just one of many levels of errors in Smullyan's book.
He took a course in logic once but cut the first three classes (so it seems)
and then wrote a book about it.
