[net.micro.mac] AZTEC C for the Macintosh

jon@fortune.UUCP (Jon Lane) (11/28/84)

Well,

A lot of people have been asking about C compilers for the Macintosh.
I have only used the AZTEC C compiler from Manx Software Systems. This
package I like. It has a UNIX like shell, a VI-Clone editor, a macro assembler
C compiler and a linker which supports the Mac Segmentation scheme. The
compiler is reasnably fast, generates good but not great code, I've only
found one minor bug so far. The documentation is just exactly what I
look for in documentation, complete and not verbose. For some it might
be too terse.
It will run on any Macintosh system, although like every thing else,
its really only reasonable to use when you have two disks. I am using it on
a Corvus Hard disk attached to a 512K mac and this makes a very comfortable
little development system. Much nicer than a PC running MS-DOS.
The expensive version (which I have) allows you to write programs
that use all the Macintosh bells and whistles. You'll need to have a copy
of "Inside Macintosh" to really do development though.
The people at Manx are working hard to make sure that the system
runs well and reliably. Good Tech Support and great update policy.
I recommend this package, but then I haven't looked at any of the
competitors.
