A couple of weeks ago I posted a request for information on the UMAX System for Mac/Unix communication. I got lot's of requests for anything I knew, but little more. So, to satisfy the requests, and perhaps encourage someone who knows more to amplify on UMAX, here is a sketch of what UMAX purports to be (the ad I originally saw was in the Macintosh Buyer's Guide, Winter Edition, 1984). UMAX makes a Mac a workstation acting as a front-end for a UNIX system. It's a separate Mac application, and requires a special UMAX shell on the UNIX side. It sounds like the Quickdraw graphics are accessible to the UNIX programs running in conjunction with UMAX, and extra tools allowing UNIX programs to access the Mac capabilities are mentioned.
