Digital Press is pushing a new compiler book, "Engineering a Compiler: VAX-11 Code Generation and Optimization", by Anklam et al. It is claimed to spend much more time and attention on code generation and optimization than the usual compiler books (a welcome change). Has anybody seen it? Is the generation/optimization discussion hopelessly specific to the VAX? Any general comments on it? It's a bit too expensive for me to buy it on speculation.
