When you say that you are using MacTerminal, I assume you mean in VT100
mode.  VT100s generate a DEL for control _, and so will MacTerminal.  That
is to say, hold down command and press -/_ to get your DEL.

It's simpler than that, or rather there are more options than that.  All the
unassigned command keys generate DEL. (i.e. CMD-1, CMD-BACKSPACE {the one I
use}, but not CMD-6 { control-^ } or CMD-SPACE {NULL}.
