Can someone please mail me a working copy of macget with instructions? Mine doesn't seem to work (gives mac IO error 1). Also, is there an upload equivalent to macsend? I'd like to get into the mode of contributing stuff. Also, why do we have so many formats (tohex, fromhex, binhex, binhcx, uucp, etc.)? Has anyone done some work on standardization? Also, why two mac nets? I'm enthusiatic about net.sources.mac but I don't see why the other two can't be combined into one.

It's history. tohex and fromhex were invented before binhex. binhcx was invented after binhex. The new binhcx format (was it called hqx?) was just invented. Everyone hasn't updated their hex-producing software which is why there are so many different version around. >Also, why >two mac nets? The two serve different purposes. fa.info-mac is intended to be a place where developers can talk to eachother. It's highly moderated. It's also an Arpanet group, so you shouldn't be posting directly to it (mail the information to the address given in the "From" line). net.micro.mac is unmoderated and is also not restricted in subject matter. At some time, it would probably make sense to gateway net.micro.mac to the Arpanet as well, using one of the "transparent" schemes. --Rick
