A few months ago the net was buzzing with complaints about Apple Computer's price reductions on the mac, the cost of the 512k upgrade kit, and so on. One particularly irate person wrote: "Bend over, put your hands on your knees, and smile, because it's coming in without vaseline." [My apologies if this is not the exact wording; it's as close as I can remember and I think I've maintained the spirit of the comment.] Maybe Apple is getting the message... A friend of mine purchased a fat mac through the Apple Certified Developer Program early this year. He sent in his order along with a check in the first week of January, and received the mac about four weeks later. About a week afterwards, he received a letter from Apple announcing a price reduction of $200 on fat macs purchased through the CD program. He should have waited a couple of months before putting in his order, right? Lo and behold, a few days later he received a check from Apple for $200, to make up the difference between what he paid and the new price. His comment: "Apple is now using vaseline." Is Apple cleaning up their act? Or was this an isolated instance?
