Here, from Compuserve, is a nice article on how to modify the minifinder
window in the system file to a larger more stylish window similar
to the one in Microsoft Word.
Using the Resource Editor, open the System File.
Then open DITL. Then open DITL -4000.
Change the information in here to the following:

Display rect 68 246 86 314
Item type 4
Item info OPEN
Place holder 0
Display rect 9999 9999 9999 9999
Item type 132

Place holder 0
Display rect 96 246 114 314
Item type 4
Item info CANCEL

Okay, when that is done, and you have closed it, go open the DLOG.
Now open DLOG ID=-4000. Now change it to match the following:
boundsRect 38 31 160 438
procID 1
visible (false)
goAway (false)
refCon 0
items ID -4000
title GF
That should do it!
I haven't had any problems using this with any applications, although
sometimes the minifinder will appear off-center.
