I just saw a demo of the ATT 7300. After fighting with the Mac for
many months, I found the ole' UNIX interface and window manager a welcome
sight. It wasn't as good as the mac in many respects, but it is the
closest thing I have seen to the Mac that I would like to use.
The question I have for you readers out there is:
1) The machine comes with a 300/1200B integral modem, a
two-line voice interface for your phone, 1 Meg, and 20MB
disk for $6K, with the requisite software adding about another
$1K. Do you think people might be persuaded to buy this
machine over the Mac, and if so, why? And if not, why?
2) It has been my experience that everyone wants nicely integrated
environments and special functions all at the same time. Also,
nobody seems to really give a damn about how hard it is to
generate a new application, just so long as it gets done now.
Has anyone out there noticed any increased awareness on the
part of managers and customers in terms of their understanding
of "good design technique" and the facility of creating tools
instead of features?
3) Have you ever dealt with a software marketing company that
you felt had integrity and did you have a successful business
relationship with them?
I realize that this request extends somewhat beyond the normal scope of
discussions in this group, but I am interested in the opinions of people
that have dealt with several different environments and classes of
{managers, customers, machines}. If, unlike previous requests, the
response so warrants, I will post a summary to the net. I am interested
most in experience and a bit less in philosophy.
Cheers,
eric
