*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** I've been having some strange problems with my external drive, and I was wondering if it's just my drive, or if other people have found external drives to be equally fickle. Every other week or so one of my disks gets munched by my EDD. Only tracks 0 and/or 1 get damaged, so the text data on the disks can actually be rescued (I figured it would take me too long to figure out how to restore ALL of the data. Does anyone know of a program that at least tries to restore bad disks?). The diagnostics tests that Apple dealers use (MacTest 4.3, I believe) all say that the EDD is OK. Yet my drive still munches disks. First I thought it was because of my habit of rebooting at places where it seemed to me that there should not be any writing done to the disk (like when the finder is being loaded). So I stopped doing that, and have started treating my Mac like the religious artifact it is. I still lose disks. Does anyone have problems like these? Any suggestions on how to get the disk drive to screw up regularly, so my dealer will actually believe me when I tell him the drive is bad? (before the service contract runs out). Thanks. -dc
