[net.micro.mac] Rom Upgrades....

Let's everyone think about this:

You have a self modified Mac and take it in to your local dealer for a ROM
upgrade. You pay the $50.00 (or whatever) and you get the new ROMs put in
your board. When you get home, your Mac no longer works. Whose fault is it?

Is it the dealers fault?
Is it Apples fault?
Is it your homegrown upgrades fault?

If you had a stock Apple board it could simply be swapped with a new one. But
since yours isn't, a board swap can't be done. What will you do with your dead
Mac? What will you expect Apple or your dealer to do? What would you do if
you were the dealer, or Apple?

Obviously the best solution would be for dealers to sell the new ROMs over the
counter to qualified individuals. But how do you determine who is "qualified"
enough to take apart their own Mac and replace ROMs without destroying their
Mac?

I myself have a hyperdrive Mac so I understand the concern first hand. But
wild raging discussions about a rumor someone heard somewhere, well, are
pretty boring.
