While I'm not familiar with the details of the case, I find the prevailing
attitude disturbing (disturbed?).  Should we get so emotional about a crime
that we are willing to bypass the usual human rights?  Public feeling about
rape has been worked up to the point where any accusation not followed by a
conviction is considered scandalous (with obvious problems), and now it may
result in torture as an acceptable form of punishment (you may think that it
should be, but that's a different topic).

B.t.w., I don't see what was wrong with the first posting to net.general. Is
there a list of "certified as general" topics?
