[net.micro.mac] MacWrite 4.5 Query

david@randvax.UUCP (David Shlapak) (05/23/85)

    (1) I have noticed that Hayden SPELLER does not work with MacWrite 4.5.
Are any of the spelling checkers currently available compatible
	with it?

    (2) It seems to be impossible to read a MacWrite 4.5 document off of
	a separate disk with a single-drive system. I swapped disks 100
(counted 'em!) times before I finally punted. Is this a "feature,"
a bug, or an inherent limitation in a disk-based apllication?

I don't know about others, but I called Hayden, and they said that they
would have the next Speller update in about three weeks. They'll notify all
registered owners when this happens. I was led to believe that the cost of
the upgrade will be $5 or $10 dollars (cost of shipping, etc.).

Yeah, I had a similar problem with MacWrite, that is, that I had to swap disks
enough times when loading a document from another disk that I could have
typed the thing in again! I got around this, though, by using a RamDisk (I
have a fat Mac) containing MacWrite and the system stuff. Since this gives
a (virtual) two drive system, there is no problem with loading stuff from
another disk. When you click "open", it will give you a window in which you
can select the internal drive or the RamDisk, and you can eject the startup
disk and replace it with the disk containing your document. It works like
a charm!
