[net.micro.mac] AppleTalk speed

al@aurora.UUCP (Al Globus) (06/07/85)

How fast is AppleTalk? I mean, one computer to another, nothing else going
on, actual charaters from one place to another. Thanx in advance, I'll
summarize for the net if the response looks good.

AppleBus is 230.4 KBaud using FM0 modulation. Each bit is 4.34 u sec long, so a single character ( 8 bits x 4.34 ) takes 34.72 u secs. But remember, all
transmissions must occur in packets with headers, etc and spacing between
packets, so the average time per character of data is a little longer.
