[net.micro.mac] macdraw/project redemption?

henry@rochester.UUCP (06/05/85)

From: Henry.Kautz

I just got my Mac upgraded to 512K, and was sending in the "Redemption
Coupon" for MacDraw/Project (for those who bought the Mac before Sept
10th), and noticed the fine print: "This coupon must be redeemed before
June 1st, 1985". Hmmm. Since I just got my Mac back from the dealer
June 3rd, and HE didn't know anything about the offer expiring, I sent
it in anyway. So, what's the word? Has Apple extended this "please
forgive us for the cost of the upgrade program" or not? (It seems
rather lousy to stop the program now, since the programs have only been
available widely for a few weeks...)

*** REPLACE THIS MESS WITH YOUR LINEAGE ***

Well, I don't know if you're out much or not. Several months ago we sent in
one of those redemptions: response = ZIP. One month ago we sent in another
on a different Mac. Response = 1 MacProject, 0 MacDraw. Our Apple field
office counsels patience. Personally, I'm beginning to believe that MacDraw
is vaporware, and Apple's committment to their promises isn't much less
ethereal either. However, we would have purchased the 512K upgrade even
without the MacProject/Draw teaser, so we're ahead so far one free MacProject
and potentially a MacDraw whenever Apple gets around to it.

One side comment about Apple's business practices. It's nice to see a company
that is not bureaucratically paperbound, but this is ridiculous! I have a
home Mac; the only way I can prove date of purchase is to go back to my dealer!
The redemption coupon thing asks you to send in proof of purchase from an
"authorized Apple representative," but it can be difficult to track that. And
then once you've sent in the coupon (with your distribution system disk) there's
no proof that you've done that! Next time I deal with Apple, it will be by
registered mail - once burned twice shy.
