[net.micro.mac] Who used 'Put Back' in the old finder -- followup

chuqui@nsc.UUCP (Chuq Von Rospach) (06/17/85)

During the arguments on the old and new finder, I somehow agreed to hear
from the people that used the dear departed 'put back' option of the old
finder. here are the comments that I received on the discussion.

Yes, I use put back a lot! I have not updated the disks
I use for Macwrite because they took it off.

The most obvious way to use it is for a weekly status report.
Put the most current version on the desktop, and the next week
simply duplicate it, put the old version away, rename and edit the
duplicate. This eliminates any difficulty finding the most
current version of a weekly document in a disk directory,
or remembering which disk to put it back to.

After all, if you try to put it back manually, and pick the wrong disk,
you end up making a new copy of it.

Sure, I used put back. I also used close all. What's the deal? Are
those of us who actually noticed the rest of the menus lepers?

Put back was good when I moved several files to the desk to select them
all and I wanted them back where they came from.

Close all was good when you have several windows open and it's time to
go home. (I always close my windows and lock the doors.) And it always
provided a neat demo. Open 8 windows, then open *all* the deskaccs with
windows. (They don't count in the 8.) Then open the clipboard (I don't think
it counts.) and the trash if you can (but I think it counts.) Then click
About the Finder. Finally admire the clutter. Then say close all and watch
the flurry.
(This is more fun to do after 10 hours of mac-ing at 3AM.)

You still don't know of anyone that uses Put Back? I can't
believe it, after the big discussion about it vanishing in
net.micro.mac a while ago. I use Put Back whenever I want to select
files in more than one folder at a time, because I have to drag them to
the desktop to do it. How do you select files in multiple folders? As
I have said before, I would prefer that Apple allow selection of files
from multiple folders, rather than putting back Put Back (if it was one
or the other).

The offices were very nice, and the clients were only raping the land, and
then, of course, there was the money...
