one item which has not been mentioned in the comparison of apple upgrades and nonapple upgrades is the free software which apple provides to those doing its upgrade. On the other hand I did my upgrade in January and still have not received the software or any word from Apple!

About the "free" software from Apple for those people who bought a SlimMac early and then got it fattened: I got my Mac upgraded in March and immediately sent in my coupon. I got my copy of MacProject about 6 weeks later, but still haven't gotten my copy of MacDraw. However, my brother (who got his upgrade somewhat earlier) has received both packages of software (he received MacDraw only within the last week or so). I suspect that Apple has a large backlog of eager customers to serve. Also, the release version of MacProject has been available for some time now - MacDraw didn't get released (i.e. there wasn't a Version 1.0) until several months later. > ... On the other hand I did > my upgrade in January and still have not received the software > or any word from Apple! First, keep in mind that the offer was only available to those who purchased their Macs before January 1 and upgraded before some other date that I've forgotten (March 1?). You also had to send in a card that your dealer should have given you. Apple was punctual in supplying MacProject, but sent me a letter saying that MacDraw had been delayed, and would I rather have MacPascal or MacTerminal instead, the default being to wait for MacDraw. This was about two months ago. I finally timed out last week and sent Apple a "have you forgotten me" letter. MacDraw arrived on my doorstep three days later! I'm inclined to write this off to coincidence. -- David W. Smith {ucbvax}!tolerant!dws Tolerant Systems, Inc. 408/946-5667
