[net.micro.mac] Hyper-Drive problems ironed out?

I read in today's Wall Street Journal that Steve Jobs' transfer will
possibly result in General Computer Corp. finally being able to
get some kind of cooperation from Apple regarding warrantees.

Hyper-drive has long been considered on of the better alternatives
for a Mac Hard disk due to the fact that it interfaces internally
so avoids the 230k baud RS422 bottle-neck; however, Apple has said
that such modification to the motherboard (as are required to install
the drive) would void the warantee. This not only meant voiding any
90 day post sale warantee, but voiding the little-known-about credits
dealers get for sending in used mother boards also. The bottom line
was that if you had a hyper-drive and the mother board went South
after the regular GCC 1 year warantee expired, it looked like you'ld
get hit w/ a $500 repair bill instead of the adjusted $200 bill from
the turn in....

it's good news anyway...unless you work for one of the other fine
companies like Iomega who adhered to Apple's (Jobs') guidelines
from the beginning and have built products that will use one of the
two 422 ports.

How about it IOMEGA, any possibility of an *internally connected*
bernouli box???
