A big point on DeSmet vs Megamax C seems to be the $299.95 for Megamax vs $150 for DeSmet. However, an examination of the July MacWorld reveals that you can get Megamax for $199. (Of course, maybe in a few months some dealer will offer DeSmet for $99.) You can also get the "$500" ExperLisp from a couple of places for less than $300. This leads me to wonder what sort of discounts and terms and conditions a developer/software-house has to give one of these discount dealers in order to be carried? It looks like effective sales price to the discount houses must be around 50% off in many cases. Who pays for shipping? What sort of credit terms do you have to offer? Do the discount houses pay promptly (seems unlikely) or do you have to finance them by giving them many months to pay without charging interest? Do you have to take back good merchandise for full credit if the dealer decides to give up on that item or can you impose a re-stocking charge? I am not looking for names, just a general idea of what the deal usually is. I will be happy to sumarize responses for the net. -- +1 617-492-8860 Donald E.
