It seems likely that defining break as "two character times @ 110 Baud" would satisfy pretty much anybody. The UART (asynchronous interface) detects a framing error (break received) after the line doesn't return to MARK after the first character time. Martin Minow decvax!minow

After checking with some of the 'older timers' here, it turns out that 'two character widths at 110 baud' is indeed the original definition for break going back to the teletype days. It seems that that is still the only condition for which it is defined! Steve Taylor
