The attack on my position is a valid one. As a Christian, I fully recognize that I am capable of doing some awful things. In fact, if you wish to apply the standard of the Sermon on the Mount, I am capable of little else! I never denied this!! I fully admitted that I am capable of murder (esp. to prevent a JoJo-type atrocity). What I said is that there is a certain level, beyond which I feel incapable of going (i.e. I may be able to kill, but I wouldn't want to do it slowly or accompanied by rape, etc.). Now, as for Freud, the entire realm of psychiatry is little more than a fabrication. It has not one shred of scientific evidence to support any of it's claims. The best attempts at experiments are ones with little attempt at control, analysed by the most imaginative statistical garbage I've ever seen. The only true scientific work in the field has been done not by psychiatrists, but by biochemists, neurosurgeons, and the like. It has become quite clear over the past decade or so that mental disorders are chemical in nature (e.g. lithium compounds for treatment of manic-depressives). Perhaps, though, I am mistaken. I would certainly welcome any news that psychiatrists have decided to do some science. With advances in brain scanners, perhaps it is indeed possible for psychiatry to enter the realm of science. But until psychiatry leaves pseudo-science in the past, I am not willing to lend the subject any credibility. els[Eric Strobel] pur-ee!pur-phy!els
