[net.micro.mac] I did it!

jan@looking.UUCP (Jan Gray) (07/25/85)

I just spent the evening upgrading my friend's Mac to 512K. Everything
went smoothly (but slowly)...and seven hours later my (very relieved)
friend had a Fat Mac for $80 CDN.

Here are a few tips:

1. Remember to remove the programmer's switch!

2. It *really* pays to have a nice Weller temp. controlled soldering station,
as the DDJ article mentions, because the magnetic tip pulls the clipped
pins out without needing pliers. Joy.

3. If you can't find an Xcelite XTD-10 Torx screwdriver w/6" shaft, you
might try a very long hex key, it worked for me.

It is a *wonderful* feeling when the Mac boots and says it has 512K!

Good luck,
