I have received requests for a "Binhexed" version of MacWrite 4.0. Since I am not sure about the legality of this action I would like to hear if possible from someone from Apple Computer, Inc. Could this program be posted? I -- Eric Geoffrey Vann Analysts International (Chicago Branch) (312) 882-4673 ..!ihnp4!aicchi!egv

You should not post MacWrite 4.0, for 3 reasons: 1) MacWrite is not a public domain program. 2) Version 4.0 is not the final released version; there is already a version 4.3. You would be doing a disservice to people by posting software that is known to have bugs. 3) When the final version is available (which should be shortly), people can just go into their dealers and get the upgraded MacWrite for free. There is no reason to cause a lot of net traffic posting a large program when it will be much easier (and more reliable) for people to get it from dealers. I am trying to get one of the people in charge of our software library to write up a list of the version numbers of all released software. Hopefully, that will be forthcoming in a week or so. -- Larry Rosenstein UUCP: {nsc, dual, voder, ios}!apple!lsr CSNET: lsr@Apple.CSNET

I have noticed that more and more of the documents posted in "MacWrite" format cannot be translated to troff/ascii using the Write2Troff package. I assume the problem is some difference between the older MacWrite format (2.8?) and the new format (4.0?). Anyway, the Write2Troff package needs updating, and I would be willing to do it if someone will send me a description of the differences between the two document formats. Alternatively, someone who already knows all about this stuff could probably do the fix in a few hours... Lets keep printing where it belongs, big multi-everything machines. Don't print on yer mac, it will wear out the CPU. (Is a :-) needed here?) Kaare Christian The Rockefeller University uucp - cmcl2!rna!kc other - look it up
