There is $450 Prolog compiler from the vendor of Micro-Prolog. It runs at about 1600 LIPS. Rather slow, in my opinion, for such a hefty price and for what is called compiled code. But I like Micro-Prolog's 'Simple' interface (a Prolog with a syntax for the rest of us) and it has the ability to make menus and windows, but currently no interface to the graphics and sound routines. They have a procedure to accept the Edinburgh syntax, but programs don't always translate they way you would like. Their APES (Augmented Prolog for Expert Systems) is also very nice, but think that costs extra. The Univ. of Waterloo has a compiler/interpreter for the MAC. It compiles to byte opcodes which are then interpreted. I don't know if they're shipping it yet. I haven't seen it yet, but those people do good work - so I'm sure it'll be fast, and able to interface to routines not written in Prolog, e.g., the ROM routines. I don't know if it'll use the Waterloo syntax or the Edinburgh syntax. I was planning to put a FREE toy Prolog interpreter (threaded code) for the Mac on the net (nothing fancy - no debugger, TRO, garbage collection, nor virtual memory management). But my employer has informed me that Apple is a competitor and any software that I develop for the Mac is increasing the viability of a competitor's product, i.e., conflict of interest. So, it's doomed to only run on my machine. George Van Treeck RHEA::DECWRL::LOGIC::VANTREECK
