The latest issue of the IMA (International MIDI Association) has
an article on MIDI for the Macintosh. I've condensed and organized
the article here into a more easily read form by companies, product
descripion, availability, addresses and numbers. No prices listed.

The first software for this has unveiled at the New Orleans NAMM
(National Assocation of Music Merchants) Show.

Passport Designs
	They are working on adding MIDI to the Concertware program
	from Great Wave software. Software will run on Digidesign/
	Assimilation interface (Discussed in a past issue of IMA Bulletin)
	No release date announced at press time.

Mimetics
	Planning on releasing Macromind's MIDI version of Hayden's MusicWorks.
	Program has MIDI-out function using either the Assimulation or the
	Opcode interface. Pieces created with Musicworks can then be played
	on various instruments.

Mark of the Unicorn
	MIDI version of Professional Composer called Professional Performer.
	No release date announced. Though at the beginning of the summer they
	said late summer or early fall when I talked to someone from the
	company.

Opcode Systems
	MIDIMac interface box. Sequencer can record up to 26 sequences of ten
	tracks each. Includes loop, transpose and track mute, multinote 
	transposition, chaining sequences, split keyboard transposition, ...
	internal or external sync, and a random note generator. Offering
	patch librarians for Oberheim OB-8, Yamaha DX-7, Casio-101,CZ-1000,
	Roland Juno-106/JX-8P. Available now.

Southworth Music Systems
	Actually demonstrating their Total Music package. Capable of recording
	in real-time, step time, or entering notes via the Mac. With the Mac
	you can put notes on a standard Grand Staff or by using bar-graph
	notation. Pitch being vertical axis and duration is the horizontal 
	axis. Runs on Southworth's own interface that has 4 MIDI-out ports
	and two independent MIDI-in ports. 99 tracks available each with
	16 MIDI channels. Tracks can be chained. Editing with resolution
	of 1.25ms, cut/paste/merge, ...., internal metronome, and external
	sync (MIDI and tape). Also has music transcription capabilities.

Musicworks
	DX/TX Librarian: patch librarian for DX7/9 and TX modules.

	MegaTrack: Sequencer. Note capacities of up to 72K notes in addition
	to access to 32 MIDI channels (via 2 16-channel MIDI-outs).
	Doesn't support transcription but MIDIWorks does.

	MIDIWorks: conversion program that enables sequences created on one
	program to be converted to another program's file format.
	Conversion for Hayden's Musciworks, Great Waves Concertware, Mark
	of the Unicorn's Professional Composer into the MegaTrack file format.
	Pretty neat.

	MacMIDI Star: MIDI interface with star-network configuration of
	MIDI output ports.

	MacMIDI 32: A-B configuration using 2 separate MIDI buses to acheive
	32 MIDI channels.

	MacMIDI Sync: upgrade of MacMIDI 32 with Drum, FSK, and Kodak Slide
	projector sync.

	MacMIDI SMPTE: upgrade to MacMIDI sync that includes a SMPTE 
	interface.

	Librarians were running at the show, but no release date on the 
	rest of the stuff.

created by the Japan MIDI Standards Committee and the MMA (MIDI Manfacturers
Association) Includes:
	-MIDI 1.0 Specification (same as you get when you join the IMA)
	-Detailed Explanation of the Spec.
	-Instructions for creating a standard MIDI implementation chart.
