How about visible pipes? This is an idea that I've been batting around for
a while, but since I'm not going to get around to doing anything with it, I
might as well throw it out to the world:

Pipes are great, but unlike the Mac interface they're not fun. So why not
have a pipe icon?

Build your pipeline on the screen! Stick the arguments to awk somewhere
appropriate (in an attached window, only visible when you doubleclick AWK,
for example)... and viola! A fun interface for UNIX, something it's needed
for a LONG time.
