[net.micro.mac] The Network As An Information Dissemination Tool...

harrow@exodus.DEC (Jeff Harrow NCSE TWO/E92 DTN=247-3134) (08/14/85)

It appears that some people have been accosting some net.sources.mac
contributors because they choose to implement some program fixes in a
manner specific to UNIX systems, and the contributor has become rather
upset at the volume of mail to this effect.

I'd like to add my voice that this net performs INVALUABLE services to
its members by allowing the sharing of information and software AT THE
EXPENSE AND TIME OF ITS CONTRIBUTORS! No contributor has ANY mandate to
provide his offerings in any particular form (or group of forms), but is
kind enough to share his work with the rest of us.

Now while we each would like to see things in a format useful to us, and
most contributors would not mind getting polite requests for other formats,
we should remember that they have NOT "done it wrong" by making their
format choices, and have NO obligation to "fix" it.

Let's consider what we would lose if we lost the submissions from some
of our best contributors, and keep complaints to net.flame.
