I was going to bring this up at the users' group meeting, but I thought I might get better and faster info from the net. I need a database to keep track of membership and contacts for the group. Here are the requirements: 1) It must work (DB Master fails on this one) 2) It must be easy to use (I'd like to set up the database and begin typing fifteen minutes) 3) It must be inexpensive (<$200 retail) 4) I will want to print labels and other lists, it must be able to do this simply; if I can display more than one record in a row, this is a plus (i.e. 3-up labels) (DBMaster does not print on a Mac XL, or an Imagewriter configured for Thunderscan) 5) It should be able to handle a large number of small records (500 records of about 200 bytes each) As you can tell, I have used DBMaster. My only complaint is that it usually doesn't do what I want it to, even though it appears that it could. I do not need a powerful database, Lotus Jazz is probably overkill. A proven product would be best; if someone could tell me that they have used Product X for 6 months continuously and have not seen a problem and they have tried everything that I mentioned, that would probably be what I would want. _emt

I need a database to keep > track of membership and contacts for the group. Here are the requirements: I saw a demo of OverVue II.0 last night at our user group (the San Diego Mac User Group) and, although I'm not particularly a database afficianado, it was VERY impressive. Although memory based (requires a 512 for serious work) it offerred interesting relational capabilities, it had a very good and natural user interface (including macros, and custom report formats), and was fast. If I were getting a database, this is the one I'd check out. -- Joel West CACI, Inc. -- Federal {allegra, decvax, ucbvax,ihnp4}!sdcsvax!jww jww@sdcsvax.ARPA The opinions expressed are not necessarily anybody's, including my own...

The Mac Users Group where I work is interested in recommending a database to club members. In order to make this recommendation I've been asked to collect the opinions of those people who have had experience with databases.... So if any of you out there have had this experience I'd be interested in your comments. Perhaps you could tell me what you like and don't like about the particular database(s) you've worked with, what configuration is required, what the limitations are, whether the product interfaces well, etc. Currently the group is favoring Helix by ODESTA so comments on this product are particularly of interest. You should mail your replies directly to me using: ARPA address: calamai@anl-mcs.ARPA or CSNET address: phcalamai%watmath%water%waterloo.csnet Thanks in advance!
