The current EE Times has a lead story on the planned 'open' Macs. They sound interesting. The 'Jonathan' especially looks nice. Anyone out there in a position to confirm/deny/elaborate on anything in there? Anyone out there think the 'leak' has anything to do with the Amiga and Atari ST releases? :-) :-) Are we seeing Apple trying to save some market share with a calculated leak? Despite any flames about relative engineering merits of the machines in question, the fact remains that the mass market will see that in the Mac vs. Amiga vs. Atari ST debate, the Mac has the highest price tag and the least internal expandability. If Apple is interested in marketing, this will HAVE to be addressed. It would seem that these 'open' Macs are to address the issue. Are we seeing Apple engineering coming to grips with reality? With the mass-market competition in 68K-based bit-mapped boxes, will we see Apple PRICING come to grips with reality? For the answer to these and other thrilling questions, I suspect we'll have to hang around 'til the next Apple shareholders' meeting in February.
