[net.micro.mac] Near Letter-quality Fonts for the Imagewriter

eirikur@amber.DEC (Eirikur Hallgrimsson) (08/26/85)

I'd like to be able to print manuscripts and cover letters on my
Imagewriter. I need to make my copy look like it came from a good
typewriter, or a daisy-wheel printer. I don't want to buy a
Laserwriter for home use, and I'd rather not have to take stuff out
to be printed for me. I had good, not great, but very pleasing results
using the Boston font that I got from a local BBS. The new system/
finder/font-da mover won't load the larger sizes of Boston (or New
York) into the new system file, meaning that I can't print using
the double-size font for high resolution. The Boston font is really
one of the nicest that I have seen. My compliments to its designer(s).
If anyone has a copy, please drop me a line, perhaps mine is
corrupt. While it worked with the old software, I couldn't install
the 24 point size.

I'd like to know the names of, and sources for, any letter quality
fonts. They can be mono-spaced or proportional, but should be between
9 and 12 point, with the double size font for Imagewriter printing.
I'll summarize for the net in case anyone else is in my position.

The commercial and public domain font sets (that I have seen) seem to
concentrate on graphic arts uses, they are too large, too bold and
too flashy/complex for my mundane needs.

A 10/20 point Toronto would be very useful for my purposes.
I wonder why it was left out of the otherwise rather complete
Toronto?
