For all you Mac hackers out there who have read Dr. Dobbs Journal and have performed, or know someone who has, the 512K do-it-yourself upgrade, I have a question about the exact kind on MUX chip that can be used. According to the article, the MUX chip they suggest is a 74AS253, or the 74L253. These MUX chips are supposed to be high speed chips. Myself only being a Comp. Sci. major, I'd like to know if the 74LS253 would work as well. I understand the this chip is a low speed MUX, but does it make a difference? So basically my question comes down to : Will the 74LS253 work in place of the chips mentioned in DDJ ???? ny suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated.
