[net.micro.mac] Apple BASIC, Retraction, Apology, Question, Flame

david@ecrhub.UUCP (David M. Haynes) (09/22/85)

This is a retraction, an apology, a question and a flame...

The Retraction:
Recently, I posted a flame on the book "Introduction to
Macintosh BASIC" by Apple Press based on its lack of I/O
commands (or the explanation thereof). People on the net
have replied (and I thank them) with the news that the book
covers a version of BASIC not released and certainly does
not cover Microsoft's BASIC which must be what the person
I was trying to help has.

The Apology:
Net people, I am truly sorry for wasting your time on this
one, but, I don't use BASIC (and could really care less about
it most of the time.) I did not know about the two versions
of BASIC or I would have checked that out first. Thanks to
those who took the time to reply though.

The Question:
Still, the question remains (although somewhat moot at this
point) Did Macintosh really plan to release a BASIC with no
	File Manipulation Routines?

The Flame:
However, the vast majority of replies I have received on this
have accused me of using pirated software! I thought the posted
article was *very* clear that I was trying to help someone else
and that the problem was for their machine not mine. These
accusations were not well received (nor warranted). Please, net
people, be careful with what you say. If replying to an article,
be careful to read it first! Nuff said.

They only asked me one question, and David M. Haynes
that was, "What is your name?" Exegetics Inc.
And I got 75% on that one... ..!utzoo!ecrhub!david

Exegetics Inc. is a legal convience and does not care what I have to say.
Emerald City Research Inc. is very kind to let me use their machine, but
in no way is even remotely responsible for the stuff I post.
