Hello everyone out there in netland, I need your help. The college I attend has two mainframes: a PDP 11/70 running V7 Unix, and a VAX 11/780 running 4.2 BSD. (A third, PDP 11/84 running Berkeley 2.9, is being added also.) I would like to set up a standard Mac interface to our Unix machines. What I want to know is what terminal programs people are using to tie the Mac into Unix and what they like / don't like / recommend etc. Specifically: * Which terminal program do you prefer? * What features do you especially like? * Do you emulate anything? Modify any termcap entries? * Remap any keys? * What are the drawbacks, inconveniences? The terminal programs currently at our disposal are: * Red Ryder (Version 6.0 emulates VT 100) * MacTerminal * MacKermit (Columbia University) * FreeTerm * VersaTerm (Beta Release) * uw Windows * H-19 Term (St. Olaf has many H-19 terminals, and supports them well.) Any and all comments are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Replys by mail, please. If there is enough interest, I'll post the results. Dave Eilers ihnp4!stolaf!eilers (The usual disclaimer, I am not in any way an official representative of St. Olaf.) _______________________________________________________________________ P.S. I am once again considering posting the Red Ryder to the net but I am waiting on three things: 1) The release version of Red Ryder 6.0 to come out. (No sense circulating buggy versions of software.) 2) An ok from Scott Watson, the author. 3) How much interest there is in such a posting. Drop me a note (e-mail) if you are interested. The first two things depend on what I'm able to work out; the third depends on you, so let me know. Also let me know if you think the posting should be broken into 64k chunks (Red Ryder itself is 98k). Thanks.

Re: Red Ryder 6.0 emulates a VT100 RR 6.2 VT100 emulation has a serious bug which makes it all but useless with screen oriented editors such as Unix Emacs. -- uucp: ..!seismo!cmu-cs-k!dtw arpa: dtw@k.cs.cmu.edu
