Has anyone had experience with the microcom macmodem.
From the review in MacWorld, it sounds pretty good,
but whats the real story.  In the article it seemed
to imply that the modem could not be used with out its
software, this seems bizzare is it really true or did
the author just slip.  I'm in the market for a modem
that can do attack dialing and unattended transfers
so I would appreciate any feedback.

    Of course I'll post a follow up to the net if there
    are enough responses.

In looking through the latest BYTE issue I found an add
for a 300/1200 baud modem. It was available as a kit or
partially assembled.  I cant remember the name and I dont
have the issue here.  Does anyone have comments on the
advisability of going this route.  I mean is a modem
a modem a modem in principle, only differing in the extra
goodies?  This modem has auto dial, redial and answer.
The  price for the kit is $120.00, very tempting.

Any comments?
