Dave Schuh asked about an ad for a $120.00 modem kit in Byte. This was from Concord Technologies of Vancouver, B.C. I called them and got a price of 126$ U.S. delivered UPS to my door. I ordered one. My package came yesterday. I opened it to find an empty aluminum extrusion case, a manual, an AC adaptor, and a single photocopied sheet of kit assembly instructions, written in longhand. 'Insert board into case, place end caps onto case. Plug in AC adaptor.' 'Board to be shipped seperately.' 'End caps to be shipped seperately.' (These are not direct quotes--I don't have the sheet here at work.) I wasn't very impressed with the manual, but the case and adaptor are of good quality. The manual is readable and complete, if poorly layed out. It seems like there is no real assembly involved. I'm glad I didn't order one "assembled!" A friend speculated that partial shipments got around some extra customs fees, hence the lower kit price. I don't know about this... I'm trying to call them right now. Anybody else in this boat?
