Thought I'd post this experience to same some other poor soul the trouble of figuring it out. I purchased the DeskToppers DA set a while back (how useful they are is another story but the Phone Book DA isn't too bad). If you try to install them using Font/DAM 2.3 (or previous versions I suspect) they don't quite work. Selecting the DA does the right thing but the Menu that get's added doesn't work. After exiting the DA, the menu item persists and if you accidentally select it, your mac will crash. The problem is this: When F/DAM copies the drvr, ditl, dlog, and menu resources, it renumbers them according to the new drvr id (this is what makes it so much more useful than the original dam (1.4)). However, embedded in the MENU resource is a copy of the MENU id which does not get changed. The fix is to use ResEdit to change that id to be the same as the actual MENU id. Everything should work okay after that. To anyone from apple: Is there an easy patch to F/DAM for this bug? The number inside the menu isn't the same as the menu's resource ID. It just happens that most programmer's have assumed they are the same. ben hyde cambridge.
