When I first bought MacTerminal, I was annoyed at it yelling at me for not having an Imagewriter file. "But wait", thought I, "that's an alert, and it's stored in a resource, which I can edit with my handy ResEdit!" And so I did. After a bit of exploring, I found that ALRT #4196 was the alert put up when no Imagewriter was found, and that stage 4 was used. All I did was change the boxDrawn flag for stage 4 to 0, and the sound value to 0 (you can use something other than 0 if you want it to beep at you.) I also remove DITL #4196, being it isn't used anymore. So, here are detailed instructions: 1. Make a copy of MacTerminal. I'm not responsible when you screw things up, so do all of this on a copy, and test it before really using it. 2. Launch ResEdit. I used 0.7, but newer ones should work. REdit (the one that puts up the Welcome dialog when it starts) will also probably work, but I haven't tried it. 3. Once in ResEdit, open MacTerminal. 4. Open ALRT. 5. Open ALRT #4196. 6. Scroll down to the bottom so that the stage 4 items are visible. 7. The item labeled stg4boxDrawn should be 1. Change it to 0. 8. If you don't want it to beep either, change both stg4sndHigh and stg4sndLow to 0 (they should be 1.) 9. Close everything, and quit ResEdit. 10. Remove Imagewriter from the disk. 11. Launch MacTerminal, and enjoy. When you have MacTerminal, you may want to open DITL, and clear DITL #4196. This isn't used anymore, being it was referenced when the alert box was drawn. Removing it saves a bit of disk space. -- Thanx, Brian L. Matthews ...{ihnp4!utzoo!mnetor,uw-beaver!ssc-vax}!cxsea!cxsea2!arrakis!blm
