[net.micro.mac] Connecting IBM-PC to Apple Laser printer

em@ihuxm.UUCP (Ed Moskowitz) (11/07/85)

Does anyone know of a manufacturer for an appletalk
board that plugs into IBM compatible PC's.
I'd like to justify buying an Apple Laserprinter for my MAC.
My boss and others in the office have AT&T 6300's.
If I can connect them to the Laser printer, it'd be easier to justify
the purchase of one.

For those of you who get fa.info-mac, this message is redundant.
I am using PC MacBridge from Tangent Technologies, Ltd. of
Norcross, Georgia. It is an AppleTalk interface board which
plugs into the IBM PC/XT or AT plus software. The software

 a) converts and sends files from
    1. WordStar
    2. MultiMate
    3. Word
    4. Lotus 123

 b) converts and sends files setup to print on a Diablo 630

 c) converts and sends ASCII files

 d) sends PostScript files

 e) provides a standalone graphing capability providing bar charts and
    pie charts

The suggested retail price is $495.00. It is available now. The current
release of the software is 2.10. They have been quite responsive to reports
of bugs (I've found several in the standalone graphing utility). They have
listened to suggestions about improving the feedback from their software but
declined to say whether they will implement them.

The product works well. The company is obviously small but trying hard.
I have 8 of the boards. Presently I am using the boards in IBM PC/XTs
but will shortly be using them in ATs as well. The boards queues you
for the LaserWriter properl; I have not put multiple LaserWriters on
the AppleTalk LAN and tried that. My LaserWriter name is the default.

The complete data is: Tangent Technologies, Ltd.
                         5720 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 100
                         Norcross, Georgia 30092
                         (404) 662-0366

I am not connected with Tangent beyond being a customer. I did arrange to
be treated like an OEM because of the number of units I intend to buy. The
opinions expressed are exclusively my own, God help me.
