"Apple's New Year Plans Said to Include Modular Mac"

Its code name was Oreo, and it looks like another IBM PC. But inside the
large box is a 1-megabyte, three-piece component Macintosh, consisting of
a monitor, CPU case, and keyboard. The machine will be shown for the first
time at Apple's annual meeting in January, according to Apple insiders.

The machine reportedly can be expanded to accomodate up to 4 megabytes
of memory in its single add-in slot. In addition, the new Apple computer
will be capable of using a built-in hard disk, similar to aftermarket
products currently offered for the IBM PC.

The proposed keyboard is larger than that of the present Macintosh. It
includes cursor control keys, and Apple's engineers have eliminated one
option key and repositioned the enter key. The keyboard does not include
function keys.

Another important development is the use of a larger screen on the machine,
said by one Apple insider to resemble the full-size monitor on the old
Apple III.

I was recently told by an Apple person
that there will be no slotted Mac at the
January announcement. This was reported
as official Apple policy which they
were trying to get to the public. There will
be a slotted Mac, just not in January.
