A while ago there was a spate of warnings against dealing with Northeastern Software. I too had a series of bad experiences with them -- no need to describe in detail, should be sufficient to summarize by saying they seemed to mean well but were way over their heads and I received many unfilled promises and much conflicting information. I eventually cancelled my (large) order. [I too was particularly disturbed by having my MasterCard charged as soon as I ordered when shipment was never in sight. One complaint led to a promise to credit the card until shipment, but they never did.] Anyway, on the other side of this game, I have had as good a series of experiences with Programs Plus (also of Stratford CT) as I had bad with Northeastern Software. Again, no need for the details, but every call was answered by a series of helpful people (in fact, after trying over and over again to get through to Northeastern, it was a pleasure just to get to talk to someone when I called Programs Plus), all confusions and failures were resolved promptly and adequately, and their prices are just about the lowest around (other than Northeastern's). They ship promptly, too. Use them! Mitchell L Model, Ph. D. "Support Services for the Artificial Intelligence Community"

I also have had bad experiences, with Northeastern software. They said that had software in stock when they didn't and they had very slow deliver 1 month, and were not very helpful about addressing my complaints etc. I wish had remember the networks advice about using them . Before that I had used Programs Plus and a recieved good service and a good prices. I no longer use mail order for two reasons: my bad experience with Northeastern Software, and an excellent retail store Computer-Ware in Palo Alto. Any Mac users in the San Jose, Palo Alto area should check out Computer-Ware it is on California Street near the train station. They have prices about 4% above mail-order. It has a knowledgable staff (they only handle Mac software). Best of all they let you try software out before using it. These guys are the best retail computer store I have seen, let's keep them in business! -- Clif Purkiser, Intel, Santa Clara, Ca.
